Here to lead young people in the right direction
'Best New Charity' winner at the Halifax Courier Diamond Jubilee Community Spirit Awards 2012
We are a youth organisation and registered charity, formed in 2011 to deliver active learning opportunities to young people.
Our aim is to encourage young people to make positive choices about their futures by lifting the barriers to learning. We offer a wide range of courses which are designed to raise aspirations, build confidence, promote equality and fully utilise each individuals potential regardless of their backgrounds or abilities.
Compass Bridge offers a huge variety of activities to get involved in from woodwork, environmental studies and motor education to kayaking, rock climbing and team building.
The Short Breaks Programme will be running over the Summer holidays and we have lots of great things planned from woodwork and bushcraft to canoeing and horse riding. If you have a child (aged 8-19 years) with a disability/learning difficulty and who lives or goes to school in Kirklees, get in touch to request an application pack. Spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
Compass Bridge, along with many other businesses and homes in the area was hit hard by the Boxing Day floods. Our workshop was completely flooded with dirty water from the river, we lost a lot of our equipment and our minibus was almost floating! We are almost back on track and although it's been a struggle, we couldn't have done it without the hard work and commitment of volunteers. People who had been strangers just turned up, eager to help clean up and asking for nothing in return. This kindness has been so very much appreciated. In January a fund raising event was held at Lee Mount Working Men's Club and was a tremendous success. We would like to send a very special thank you to those who kindly donated gifts and prizes for the raffle and tombola. Many thanks to everyone who came on the night and we hope you had a great time. Thank you Lee Mount Club for providing the venue and food donation. Thanks to The Void, a great band, for providing fantastic entertainment and also to our very own DJ Jordan for keeping the music going. Janet Lord and her great dancers were amazing and thanks to the Pickles family for all their tremendous effort in bringing the event together. Through your generosity we have raised in excess of £1500 which will help towards replacing our minibus and the equipment we lost.
